I am new to using this forum. If this topic has been discussed before I wasn't able to find it under search.
I am having a problem with the shoe coming loose on the shoe cord 2. I am using 550 and 420 EX flashes and after about 15-20 weddings I have to replace the cord because the shoe that attaches to the flash loosens and the cord no longer makes consistent contact. I took the cords into the local camera repair shop and like me they couldn't figure out how to take the cord apart to try to tighten the shoe. Has anyone else had this problem and did you find a solution? Canon repair wants the price of two cords just to look at it but at $50-70 apiece new these cord should be repairable. Any thoughts on how I can get an exploded diagram of one of these cord?

I read on some other forum that there are some screws under the top plate that can be tightened. The trick is getting the top plate off. Aha, found the thread (http://www.robgalbraith.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB18&Number=277000&Forum= All_Forums&Words=%2Bcord%20%2Bloose%20%2Bscrews&Se archpage=0&Limit=25&Main=276982&Search=true&where= bodysub&Name=&daterange=0&newerval=&newertype=&old erval=&oldertype=&bodyprev=#Post277000).
Hope this helps.

I do not have the bad cord with me right now but will try the fix when I get home. Seems like you found my answer for me. Thanks again.

I'm having a problem described above with my OCSA2. But the thread referenced above no longer works. Anyone know how to tighten up the top plate of the adapter (where the flash slides in)? When I tilt the camera down, the flash leans ever so slightly forward causing loss of contact between the flash and the shoe cord. Any advice (preferrably, not buy a new one) would be appreciated...

Try this link below. The procedure should be the same whether it's the OSC2 or the hotshoe on the camera.

I should warn you that I just tried removing the plate in the hot shoe and it's not that easy. I gave up on it because I really didn't want to risk damaging anything as there's really nothing wrong with my OSC2. I was just trying to see how easy it would be to get that plate off.
