So I'm sitting going through my gear list to update it to my insurance company and damn, I've spent alot in the last 18 months since I decided to go digital. Looking through the list I see some stuff I don't use much but if I didn't have it I would probably be saying "gotta have it"!
In the grander scheme of things I don't use my 50mm 1.8 very much. I have the 24-70 f2.8 L which covers this range and it is a deadly sharp lens. So if I had any regrets it would be buying that but it is such a small purchase in relative terms that it probably doesn't count.
Looking in your bags, do you have anything that you actually regret buying :?: :?:

Ya, my empty wallet :( I wish I could use it more ..
I only have the Rebel, kit lens and canon 75-300 and it's gonna be all I have for maybe a year... and 512 cf :(

Yep and I just sold it. I bought the 24-85mm lnes. It was a great lens but I had a lot of overlap..

Regrets, I've had a few
But then again, too few to mention
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exception
I planned each charted course
Each careful step along the byway
Oh, and more, much more than this
I did it my way

Seriously, I cannot say that there is anything I regret buying.
On second thought, I could have saved some money if I had bought my L glass first and had not first bought some Sigma glass.
There is nothing in the bag I regret buying except for the expired Best Before dated Twinkie

I looked and found nothing I regret buying..... except of course my film cameras and related paraphernalia.
Uh-oh! I think I in trouble!....

I don't know if regret is the right word, maybe "wish I had known better".
When I first bought my D60, it was my first serious camera. I did not know enough about glass to make a totally informed decision. I asked about an all around lens to start with and picked upa 28-135 f/3.5-5.6 IS to start with.
Don't get me wrong, it was not a bad choice for a starter lens. I've taken some amazing photos with it, and it is a great "kick around" lens to have in the bag. When I'm walking the beach in Hawaii or hiking in the Adirindacks or Gatineau park, it is a good lens to have, inexpensive and takes good pictures.
But I would have (knowing then what I know now) picked up 2 of the L glass lens to cover the range, plus some.
But as you can see by my kit, I've stuck to travel and hike size lens to cover most situations. May still pick up the gap there yet.

UV filter. I just don't believe in them. And a Hoya 77mm, it wasn't cheap.
500D - again 77mm and not cheap. (I should give this another try, though.)
The 420EX, but I sold that to some sucker and got a 550 so I'm happy now.
:D
That's about 0.03% of my spending, so that's not bad.

I don't use my 50mm 1.8 very much.
I don't use my 50mm or 85mm f/1.8 much either, but I bought them used to shoot my girls dance recitals using existing light and I got a good deal. So I wish I'd use them more, but I'm glad I have them for when I need them.
I bought a Lowepro Street and Field belt system and I've found I don't use it much, especially since I've found a very nice Domke vest! Maybe I'll use it more when I get back into hiking when my wife finishes school in a couple of years.
I don't use my 420EX much, but that was bought when I had a G3. I got a 550 for a good price when I had a DRebel for FEC and 2nd curtain flash. I've played with the wireless flash a little and I'd like to learn more, so I haven't sold it yet.
Most of my lenses and accessories I bought used. Used Canon stuff holds its value well, so I don't feel so bad if I find I don't use it because I know I can sell it for what I paid for it.

My regrets are all the cheap non-Canon lenses I bought a few years ago and the Canon 75-300 IS that I bought last year.

I regret buying the Stofen Omnibounce for my 420 EX flash. It's just a simple, cheap piece of plastic and it's of limited use - you really need a good white wall or ceiling to bounce the flash off of, otherwise it's not useful at all to make shadows softer.
I bought it in a local shop for the outrageous price of ...... € 35 (about $ 45 with today's exchange rate).
€ 35 for a stupid piece of plastic which I'm sure didn't cost more than € 1 to produce.

I have a closet full of regrets, but overall, I'm very happy with my involvement with photography. I only wish I had 20/20 hindsight on some of the things I 'couldn't live without' at the time but never used.

Mmm.... Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM. I hate that lens, I REALLY hate that lens - have I mentioned that before?
Also the Canon EF 2x Extender II. It's worse on my Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8 EX than the Sigma 2x TC (and that aint fantastic).

A Canon 2x extender, I have not used it because I don't have any lenses that will allow autofocus to keep working....

It's not really a regret but the price I paid for the G3. What a fantastic camera it is.
Had I known then what I know now, I would've bought it from the US at half the price. Bought it for more than $1,000 when it was selling for $500 in the US.

I've sold off my regrets,...
Some Sucker traded me a perfectly good 420EX for an angle finder C I used once. (he should trade me for his unused Hoya 77mm UV filter too because I go through these like he goes through Gourmet coffee, just bought another 6 pack.)
Sold off the 28-300mm
I too rarely use the 50mm f/1.8.. but thats ony because I never shoot that feild of view... and at $70.00 I don't regret owning it :)
I think about selling the 70-300mm DO all the time (it's just so damn pricey!) .. but because of it's size,. it still is one of my most used lenses,.. on the 20D with no grip it is very portable.
