I know canon EF lenses are compatible with the digital rebel. However what about all the other lenses made for canon EOS by manufacturors like Quantaray, Sigma, and Tamron? Will these lenses work for the digital rebel?

Thanks.

Yes, any EF or EF-S series lenses will work perfectly. Stay away from the older FD lenses.

Thanks Adam.

What about the lenses made by Quantaray, sigma ect. that are made for canon EOS? Will these still work with the rebel?

Thanks.

Yes, but only buy lenses that say 'Quantaray' if you want to take really crappy images :) If you need something to play with, everyone here will tell you to start with the 50mm Canon 1.8. A super sharp, very nice contrast lens for under $70 new! It's a steal and will really help you get to know the camera.

After that buy the Tamron 28-75 2.8 and you'll be off to a great start with great optics at very reasonable prices.

From there on the zoom end it's up to you. I went with the 100-400L as a 'handle it all' kind of thing, but it's $$.

No problem... and do what I should have done, and hide the credit card! This stuff gets addictive. There's always 'just one more thing I need then I'm good.'
