I presume they are offspring of one of your adult Chinese mantids? Maybe there is a Tibetan mantid in the middle of that melee?

no..i was giving an ooth to take pics of for there web site..u can buy these ooth on ebay for 10£..They have high mortality rate il probably end up with something like 30-40% at the end maybe less.

Now thats what I was looking for from you MJ! cute little buggers. I remember years ago finding an ooth and keeping it in a jar then all of a sudden... just like in your pic there were hundreds(seamed like anyway ) of those little buggers running around eating each other.
Nice shots. I like the last two the best.

lol Toby i think i saw a mongolian mantid in there also. MJ what the heck do you keep them all in when they get bigger.

i hatch them in 320z deli cups with damp spagnum moss as medium.soon as they hatch i put the cup in a 1ft X 1ft mantis place net cage with the lid off..they all climb out in to the net cage then

I second that. I have an ooth perched on a hibiscus in my back yard waiting for the day... Hope I'm home when they hatch:

hell no..that is a wild guess..this species if its a big ooth which it is hatch 250-400..so i said 300 to be on safe side..lol

BTW, I'm guessing that an "ooth" is a cluster of baby Mantis where they were born/hatched?

ooth or ootherca is a foam like sack which holds lots of eggs..3-10 weeks they hatch
