This game is to help those of us who are trying to learn new tricks when it comes to editing.

Here's the breakdown of the game. I will post a picture that I choose, resized to exactly 800 pixels maximum on the long side. Outside of being resized it has to be unedited...meaning no adjustments to any levels, it has to look like it did as it came out of the camera.

The game will last 48hrs and whoever can produce the best edited image (as judged by me) will be picked and it'll be their turn to post their unedited picture for all of us to take a crack at.

The participants must have their "Image Editing OK" turned on and they must provide at least a simple breakdown of how they edited the image, some entrants are a little vague on this point, please give us all details so we can learn and share tips. For instance if you use the unsharp mask tool or Smart Sharpen, provide us with the adjustments you used so others can try them out.

You can post multiple images, but the first image you post will be the one that is judged - all other images will be considered for knowledge and tip use only.

Also, please keep all comments, be they positive or negative, to yourself until after the game has ended.

If you happen to be the winner of the game please start the next one with the title of the game and the following number. For example…the next game should read (Before and After #36)

This is all about having fun so have at it!!!

This game will end on Thursday, March 22, 2008 at 2pm (eastern).

Here is one I took of a road durning fall. It really didn't come out that good because it was dark and I had it at a high iso. So hopefully you guys will be able to do something with it.

Opened file
Duplicated
gaussian blurres at 10% or so
set blurred duplicate to overlay
created vignette around the middle of photo to create a light beam shinning down
then took it to lightroom and adjusted luminence (SP?) on the orange, green, and red.
Cropped and there ya have it

Wow, the competition has gotten really stiff in here.

My take on this:
1. Adjusted the exposure and brightness.
2. USM on the road and bottom part of the pic at 300, 0.3,0.
3. Selective dodging and burning.
4. Vignetting.
5. Frame.

well i did a bunch of stuff but in the end i liked the infared version best

i screened it and gave a sharpen to it, changed shadows and highlights and then overlayed it.

Did some cloning on the path
adjusted a lot of the colors via color select to give more of a autmn feeling
adjusted exposre
sharpened
cropped and finally added border

For some reason, in uploading it, It totally desaturated the colors - don't know what happened - oh well.

I really enjoyed this photo:
First to create the sunbeams effect, I duplicate the blue channel, increased the levels in that channel & selected it. I filled the selection with white in a new layer & did a radial blur, added a outer glow. Later I adjusted the beams to make it look as if they were coming out of the branches. I boosted the saturation & contrast. Finally I dodges some of the darker areas.

Wow I can't believe how you guys were able to take a plain looking shot and create so many wonderful images with it. I loved everyones image so this was very hard.

So the winner is TheKid24- I love how you did it because it reminds me of a dream. The bright colors and dark shadows really brought out the picture.

Tied for 2nd is Firu300, Sr1 & TheSonofDarwin- All three of you did an awsome job on making it look 100 times better then it was.

ilmk- yours looks like it should be in a book.

Can't wait for the next one.

Well done everyone! Some very interesting variations here. I love this contest because it makes you wonder what could be done with most of the pictures we trash/archive.
