Matthias,
I like this very much. Some of the best pictures are the simplest of subjects. I especially like the contrast between the metal highlights and the blue. Interesting also that you sometimes need to violate the basic rules of composition. The diagonal line to the upper right could be shifted to the left in a "formulaic" composition, but then you would lose the slightly out of focus circle in the background.

This is a beautiful shot. The only thing I find distracting is the ring on the left but to a musician that may not be a distraction at all.
What about a different angle?

I love these kind of shots.
I like the way the mother-of-pearl glistens. is that your reflection in the brass tubes?
cool!

I like it too. I agree that the ring is somewhat in the way - also I find the straight lines in the back a bit disturbing, buy hey you can’t change the build of the instrument.
What you could do is perhaps try a few other angles on the valves to see where it goes. It might also be worth trying for shallower DOF to blur the background more - or perhaps going the other way to make the entire instrument in focus.

A very interesting and well-composed shot.
Well done.
Glad to see I'm not the only one in the world using a pro90 !

Matthias,
Your photo is quite harmonious, it blends together perfectly. It plays a melody with color and shapes, it is perfect.

I was a horn player.
This shot could NOT be more perfect from a technical point of veiw.
Now, as a photographer I should say...it's still a nearly perfect shot.
Nice work!

Yes this is a wonderful shot.
Not even a fingerprint is showing.
I have never tried to take such an image and after seeing this one, I am a bit afraid to even try!
