Ok so finally decided to install the EOS Utility and all the other hoo ha that came on that disk with the camera...onto my newest desktop.

I decided I wanted to try and add some picture styles to the camera...type my name in the owner's area...and all that mess...

I install EOS Utility. I open it. It works.

I want to test out these picture styles on the Canon site....but WAIT!!! Must upgrade EOS Utility to version 2.1 or higher. The latest updates is 2.2. I think great!! Let's get this upgrade started!

EOS Utility no longer opens. Immediately after launched the program - I get this "EOS Utility has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. Send Error Report?" Send error report? To microsoft? WHAT FOR?! This is Canon?!

So now. after many uninstalls. and reinstalls. and computer restarts. and trying to upgrade again. - I have gotten nowhere but ticked off.

Anyone have ANY idea what could be wrong here? I'm running Windows XP on the desktop. Vista is on the laptop, but have not tried to load there yet, and im too tired to try tonight. Did anyone save the 2.1 upgrade file they can send me or something? Cause 2.2 just aaaiiiin't working.

Well I hate to tell you this. I installed the update, my previous version was 1.1.0.8. I didn't have any problems. You may have already tried these possible suggestions. Run a registry cleaner after you install the upgrade, probably a good idea since you have installed/uninstalled several times. Uninstall all of the canon program, reinstall from disk. Restore puter from yesterday. Try again.

As above, I downloaded the update and had no probs with it. Only thing I can suggest and you prob already know is make sure you got any security software disabled depending what if any you got running. Always try downloading it again as you could just have a corrupt or missing bit of the download. All the best:)

Vs. 2.2 works fine on my PC (Win XP/SP2 Home). I upgraded from Vs. 2.1 that was bundled with my 40D. If you still want 2.1, send me a PM with an email address and I'll shoot it off to you.

Finally I got it to work after removing, loading ect.

The solution for me was to remove in control panel under camera and scanner wizard the 40D and let it rediscover it.

Too simple
