i worry about all the perfect photographs i'm missing if i don't have my camera. i carry my camera with me everywhere. its a small camera and i obsses about the perfect night shots that the camera is not capable of handling. i feel guilty that i spend too much time clicking pictures. i worry that some day my ability to take these great photos will disapear.

on the other hand, i love taking pictures. i'm good at it, very good i think. i love showing my photos to people. i love checking them on the computer to see how they came out. i love organizing them and picking out the best and the best of the best. i love planning future shots, locations and themes.

photography gives a ritual and schedule to my day. stability and a purpose. i dont watch TV anymore. i don't worry about politics, religion, or anything in the newspaper. i'm learning to be quiet, obesrvant, unobtrusive. i worry less and do more.

so how many can relate to all this? and if you have any suggestions on the first paragraph, please, help......

Um, sometimes when I drive around my camera is either in my lap if it has a smaller lens on it, or on the passenger seat. lol Just in case anything interesting happens along while I'm driving. - yeah a little obsessed - just sometimes tho. ;)

You've come to the right place to talk photography that's for sure. Obviously you're new and you're excited so you don't want to miss anything. My camera was attached to my body when I first got into this too. It'll pass.......... ;)

ok, my sister LOVES horses and is planning to move back to the old family farm, with a lot of acerage........ so the question is, is there a skill or "feel" for nautre and outdoor photography. i crop 75% of my shots and 90% of my shots are of intresitn objects or street scenes. (i saw your horse photographs).

I think everyone has their 'niche' of what they are best at in photography. Me, I like to dabble in everything, but nature and landscape stuff seems to draw me. My mind is always working 90 miles a minute scanning everything to see what would make an excellent image. Just go drive around and see what draws you to it and you'll know.

As long as shooting lots of photographs doesn't interfere with your social life (sometimes I go a little crazy when I have my camera taking pictures when I'm on an outting with the wife.. she gets pissed) then shoot away!!! Buy more memory cards if you have to! :) If you are actually going through every picture and editing/sorting them then good for you!

man I wish I was like you! I don't shoot enough- I'm constantly seeing great shots- but don't always have my camera. I used to take my rebel everywhere- but didn't want to leave it in the car in the 110 degree heat in AZ- and got tired of dragging it into work with me every day. Been thinkin' about a G9 just so I won't have to lug my 40D around on a daily basis.
Cameras- like guns and condoms? Better to have one and not need it- than to need it and not have one!

Robert,
I get the impression from your post that you are young. (Correct me if I'm wrong...) It's nice to be idealistic and enthusiastic about photography. I was like that years ago, but for the longest time I got very cynical about photography and didn't do much of it for years. I'm now retired and making a little money with my photography on the side, so my enthusiasm for the medium has been rekindled, especially since I went digital.

I still don't take my camera with me everywhere I go. I just don't feel it's necessary. I have plenty of opportunities to shoot so most of the time it stays at home.

Robert,
I suggest checking out a photographer I just love - Parker Pfister. He will just go out for hours one or two days a week and shoot anything and everything he sees as an image in his mind. I watched a great video about him last night at a seminar. Great personality on him and made me think that you'd like him too.

His website - www.pfisterphoto-art.com

Check it out and see what you think. He's amazing and has an incredible imagination.

I rarely take my camera with me as people ten to get mad at me - last time I took it a half hour walk took over 3 hours so I usually go along and scout, then go back on my own or with a couple of people from Uni Photography Club and make the most of it without worrying about annoying/upsetting other people.... Is a b!tch when you miss great weather conditions (very rare in north Wales) or a rare shot

Robert,
I get the impression from your post that you are young. (Correct me if I'm wrong...) I don't think he's that young if this is a self-portrait. (http://www.flickr.com/photos/24800109@N05/2345176458/)

His Flickr gallery is "okay", mostly urban photography...lots of pictures of signs.

"Young" is relative... I'm 61 so he's young to me.
