View Full Version : G5 LCD too dark question ...

I just purchased a G5 for an everyday p&S that I can carry without having to haul my DSLR kit around and I have few questions.

The manual says that in M, P or Tv mode the lcd display will change to reflect the predicted image exposure once pressing the shutter button halfway. However, my LCD goes much darker than the scene ultimately recorded on the camera. This is most noticeable if the room lighting is low and makes it difficult to focus lock and then recompose.

If the metering gives a good reading (no shutter speed or aperture in red) and the exposed image actually comes out well lit, why does the lcd look like I am way underexposed? I've tried both regular and bright setting for the lcd in the menu, doesn't matter.

Also, it appears the autofocus lamp on an external flash like the 420EX or a Metz 54 doesn't emit. Only the lamp on the camera works. The manual doesn't mention AF lamps on external flash one way or the other.
Thanks for any input.
