Just got back from a 2 week trip and was sad to discover that I appear to have dust on my CMOS - (e.g., I've swapped lens and the "dirt spots" on the pics appear in the same place on the photos).

I've read about using "Giottos Rocket Air Blower" as the way to blow off the particles - using the CMS Sensor cleaning procedure in the manual. It looks like a fairly straightformward process -- as long as I don't physically touch the sensor.

Do you guys recommend this still ?? or would I be better off taking it to a $tealer?

Thanks !!

There's no reason not to give the blower a try, you've got nothing to lose. If it turns out not to work, then maybe send it in.

I've been using the Eclipse Optic Cleaning System for the past several years. I haven't switched to any other one since I have to use up the entire bottle of cleaning fluid.

I like it. It gets the job done and I only have to clean my sensor about 1-2 times a month, depending on how much and where I'm shooting.

hmmm.. Cleaning Fluid ?? I read that you never let ANYTHING but air toch the CMOS Sensor. So you're saying that you apply the fluid to the CMOS? And then what, wipe it off - can you be more specific how you use that kit? I have yet to buy anything -- a bit in analysis (and fear of damage) paralysis ...

thanks

First, I'd sincerely like to know where you read that.

Then, I'd like you to read these carefully:

http://www.bobatkins.com/photography/tutorials/sensorclean.html

http://www.dmcphoto.com/Articles/SensorBrushes/

http://www.tribcsp.com/~sigma2/SensorDust01.html

And then if you don't believe the experts on this matter, do a search on this forum for "sensor cleaning"; the trouble with this approach is you won't have enough time read all the posts.;)

I read it in my manual -- pg 41 & 42 ... They mention to never allow the blower to touch the sensor, not to use canned air, etc... I'll take a look at the links you provided. Thanks
