I just left a canon seminar and was just blown away by this software. The rep told me that in two weeks a new version 1.5 will be available for free and it is backwards compatible all the way down to the Digital Rebel. Currently only the 1D & 1Ds can use it. Check out this site in the next two weeks. :P http://web.canon.jp/Imaging/sdl/dpp-e.html
I guess I should have said that Rebel, 10d, 20d and up will be able to D/L from this site using thier serial # from thier camera to get this new DPP 1.5 version.

Check out here for a tutorial on how to use it. http://www.photoworkshop.com/canon/dpp/index.html

That's just about all that seminars do these days.

I hope it fixes the problem DPP has with it's demosaic algorithms.
I ended up switching to EVU until C1 PRo supportes the 20D because of this problem with DPP.

I was under the impression that DPP didn't support the 20D :? at least that is the way the rep made it sound. Of course I have only a couple of months of experience with my Rebel and I don't know much about the other models- still learning how to use mine.

Its only free if you have a 1 series body, unless someone posts a model and serial number its only free to you. Did the canon rep tell you this was going to change. I think it would be great if canon allowed every digital canon owner to download it regaurdless of what body they had.

Yes, DPP 1.1 Raw Software supports the 20D, and comes packaged with the camera.
I've been using it for about a month now. It's actually really quite good.
Probably only C1 Pro beats it (there are some things in DPP I like better).
The only problem is that sometimes DPP produces a slight, bluish halo around sharp edges. I just discovered that this weekend, and then found a review of DPP showing the same problem.
DPP and EVU use completely different algorithms. The colour from DPP is very similar to C1, while EVU produces results that are almost exactly like the 20D jpgs.

If you goto DP Reviews review of the 20D, it has a good comparison of raw software, like C1 Pro(beta), EVU, DPP, PS CS.

She told me that DPP will be a free download and that it will be compatible with Digital Rebel-10D-20D and up to the 1Ds She said " check the web site in the next week and a half to two weeks"

I only found this out because I couldn't get the Canon Solutions disk to load on my PC (my cdrom won't recognize that one disk) I asked her if I could download the software - I could only find updates, no full version of my software. Anyway she said to wait a couple of weeks and DPP 1.5 should be there to download. http://web.canon.jp/Imaging/sdl/dpp-e.html I guess all we can do is wait and see.

Gawd I sure hope they fix the blue halo problem that is present in the DPP1.1 version. If they do, I may actually stick with DPP rather than go back to C1 Pro.

The reps name was Elizabeth Pratt and she is a Technical Representative for Canon. I don't know if that means anything to anybody or if there is a way to contact her through their web site. I believe she said that she was the voice on the other end of the phone when you call w/ a technical problem, probably one of many technical reps.

I just got my 20D yesterday and it is indeed packaged with DPP 1.1. In the manual it says:

Supported Image Formats:
RAW images shot on an EOS-1D Mark ii or EOS 20D camera (.CR2)
RAW images shot on an EOS 10D, EOS DIGITAL REBEL or 300D (.CRW)

I have tried it on images I shot on my 10D and it seems to work just fine. It seems as if it already works for all cameras but its just not avaialable for download unless you have a 1D or 1Ds.

I can put DPP 1.1 up if you want to try it out.

BTW, I'm not the only one noticing the fringing/demosaic problem with DPP.
I've read quite a few complaints about it in other forums now, with many people hoping v1.5 fixes the problem. I really hope so to, but I dont think it will.

Do not advertise it here if you do illegally place this software online for people to download.

I can wait for 1.5 thanks- Just curious does that fringing come out on final prints of yours?

Agaric, I haven't tried a print yet.
I suspect it wouldnt be that noticable at 4x6 or 5x7, but I think it would be at 8x10 and up.

Has anyone tried these?

PFree 0.2 reduces purple fringing
http://www.sd3.info/pf828/PFree/PFree0-1.html
A PhotoShop plugin, developed using FilterMeister, that reduces purple fringing on the Sony DSC-F828 and probably other digicams as well.

CAfree 0.1
A PhotoShop plugin, developed using FilterMeister, that reduces CA-like blue fringes on the Sony DSC-F828 and probably other digicams as well.
This is a work in progress, but already works extremely well on many landscape images, so I'm sharing it now. See also the companion plugin PFree for reducing purple fringes around overexposed highlights.

What I don't understand is why, if DPP 1.1 is already out (included with the 20D), Canon doesn't have the latest version availabe as a download for upgrading the previous version of DPP like they do with EVU. :?
