P.O.T.N. Remote not working

I have the POTN RS-80N3 remote release, and it is not working properly. It will start out fine for about three shutter releases, then it will quit. Sometimes it will activate the IS on the lens and show the info in the view finder, but will not activate the mirror lock-up or the shutter. I've tried unplugging it from the camera, and itself, and reattaching. Sometimes I can get one shutter release. It doesn't matter which lens. Last night I was using the 70-200mm and my Sigma 10-20mm.

There were no instructions when I got the remote, so I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong. Do you have to slide the switch up while pushing down or just push the switch? I'm at a loss.

I think when you slide the switch "up" (or forward) it locks the button down (i.e. for bulb exposures). I just press the button, and mine works fine. I know if you want mirror lockup you need to press twice (first press locks up mirror, second trips shutter).
