I'm curious...
For those of you who post here regularly, what is your reason?
Do you use this forum as a guage to research the appeal of your image? If so, do you frame, show and sell these images, or do you simply share your image here only.
Just trying to see how others use these forums and why they post their images - especially the T&L forum.

I post here to share only.

I frame, show and sell images on a regular basis. I post and share here simply to participate in the group. There are plenty of ideas for shots and locations to be found in the share sections. Odds are good that if a photo proves popular here, it will probably be popular anywhere.

Exactly. I was wondering how many members use these forums as spring boards to deciding what to show and sell. I was wondering how many posting members here do shows regularly and base their product on forum feedback. Ultimately, I was wondering if it works/helps in their success.

it's interesting...because the cross section of preference is very wide here...if I were to group my photos in order of preference on here, they'd be pretty even...some are really liked by some and not others...and it's pretty much across the board that way...I don't know if I have any one photo that was universally liked or disliked by all (well maybe one :) ). So, in most cases (unless something is really liked that I disliked) I offer the public what I like...and in a broad spectrum of styles to cover most general tastes (and thusly will also be what some dislike).

I'm at work. When else can I post here?
Do you use this forum as a guage to research the appeal of your image?
No. Not appeal of the image but the quality of my technique.
If so, do you frame, show and sell these images, or do you simply share your image here only.
I share them at my Smugmug account with my family.

Thanks for asking.

I post because you need a minimum before you can hit up the G&N section.
Almost...there...

Sounds like two things are getting mixed up. Sharing posts and info, what I though that this thread would be about and sharing photos. The first one is easy to answer, the second one more difficult.

No, I expected the "only to share" answers as well. I was trying to see how many actually take feedback here and apply it to the possible showing and selling of their art.

I post primarily to ask questions and learn.
I also like to share what I work on and see how it is received and get ideas on improving my skills and ability

I like reading about a lot of the professional aspect of photography and how people run their businesses/etc. I also like reading about PP techniques, lighting techniques, and more advanced photography stuff. I check out the gear forums and show my photos occasionally as well.

It's a life substitute for me. :-D
I'm here to learn, as well as to interact with other enthusiasts, at the same time hoping that I contribute something useful in return.

Not only is it a great sounding board, but for me, it's about sharing the same interest in photography. No one in my immediate family wants to discuss proper exposure, gear, etc. I think I have learned a great deal coming here and appreciate others who have taken the time to support those of us with less experience.

Yea, I get a lot of that as well though my SO loves to go on photo shoots but is not a gear head at all.

I'm passionate about photography, I do a few wedding professonally every year, love to discuss all aspects of photography ... and I can this on this forum and the photography club I belong to.
I also like ... actually quite passionate about this as well ... exploiting FULLY the technology at hand. There is so much built into, engineered, imagined in our cameras, lenses, etc ... that certain things will escape us - escapes me for sure .
A good example is the cf4: the * button for focusing vs the shutter button ... someone pointed me to a thread that's been ongoing since 2004 and as of last evening was still active and relevant ... WOW !!
Another example is the nifty-fifty 1.8 lens ... I would never have gone to a camera store to purchase such a lens at such a low price. I purchased this lens on the strength of various posts on this forum and have been amazed at the IQ under low light conditions, didn't break any banks and my lovely wife still loves me .
Last but not least are all the great shots that members post under various shooting conditions.
So there you go, I eat it all up and hopefully it shows in my phtoography .

I don't wanna discuss proper exposure or gear either. I'd like to think I'm past that. Not trying to knock the newbs, but it does get tedious after awhile.

Hey me too! I tend to piss them off more than annoy though. But hey I'm not fussy.
