I want to upload couple of shots from my local bike (cycling) race to Photoshelter. Do I need to have a model release form for each racers appeared in the shot?

Thanks.

If you are submitting them as editorial content, then a release is not needed. For any other use a release is required.

Technically yes... But just for uploaded for your own use, I don't think it's a big deal. If you are asked by one the riders to remove them, you should right away.

Now if you will try and use them for commercial use, you will have to determine if you can tell who the person is. If you can, you will need a release. You don't need a release for journalism use.

- If it was in a public venue than no, you can sell them but be careful to whom. Say a state or nation park. To be 100% honest if you didn't tell anyone there your website or give them a card the chances of them stumbling upon the is very unlikely. Unless your website is well know and gets tons of hits.
- If a email is received or contact is made by a racer for you to remove the photo, then do so.
- For commercial use you would then need a model release form.
