Does anyone own the Tamron AF28-200 Super LD Aspherical model 171DE lens? I have one that I purchased back in 97 that I used with an Elan. I now use it with my new 20D and Im thinking it's the source of softish images. Did a search and don't see anything. Anyone?

I bought a Tamron 28-200 in 1996 when I gave up on Konica and switched to Canon. The 28-200 was OK at the shorter focal lengths and smaller apertures, but I found it too soft at 200 mm, large apertures and close focusing. I ended up getting a Canon 70-200/2.8 and only used the short end of the zoom range on the 28-200.

I eventually got fed up with the lens and gave it to my daughter. She still uses it on her Rebel G film camera but seldom makes an enlargement bigger than 4x6. She is happy with it, but is not very serious about her photograpy.

Just to show that sharp lenses don't always matter, I won a wildflower photography contest with that lens with a dreamy soft looking shot. If I had used a better lens the shot would have been sharper and might not have won.

It was quite a few years after that lens before I bought another Tamron.

I've had two of those (i think-i definitely had LD asph..can't rem the exact model #)
and they were the same-good strong contrast and colour but low sharpness.
