Here is one from my archives. I haven't had time to participate so thought I'd try to find someone that I had taken before.

Title: Double Portrait
Camera: Canon S2IS
Pulled one deep out of the files for this one. This is a "portrait" shot of my daughter standing beside of an abstract "portrait" painting she did of our son.
A lot of Postprocessing on this one (I don't remmebr what all). I know it was run through NeatImage and I softened my daughter a little for a "portrait" effect.

Canon S3IS, auto
At a birthday party for 4 year olds. I wasn't looking for a portrait, but she posed anyway.
The background may be distracting but it forms the context of the occasion.

Thanks to all who submitted photo.
1] urcunina (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/member.php?u=101280) “No Title”
Background is distracting, but all I see is those big brown eyes. Very sharp, and a full head shot with no cropping.
2] RubenAlonzo (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/member.php?u=138061) Title “Taylor”
Good expression , nice lighting, very sharp, eyes and mouth are on the line of thirds and vertically here eyes are close to being on thirds, which to me makes this photo more appealing, even with the photographers reflection in here eyes this is very appealing. Here hands pulling on here hair is a negative, but impossible to crop without loosing here chin all together, (which is cropped a little) a less tight crop showing more of here hands might be nice. This was my favourite shot and a very close call for first place.
3] PaulB Title “Mona Lisa smile”
Nice back ground subject is well lit Flower Stem at bottom left of here dress a little distracting.
Over to ] urcunina (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/member.php?u=101280) for the next challenge.

A personal observation from the peanut gallery. Rule number 5, posting picture name in the subject line, doesn't seem to be being enforced.

Yep, that was the first thing I noticed too.

And second place went to an entry that was the wrong size...

Your comments are right on. I (and others) need to pay attention to requirements and I will, in the future, to prevent getting officially busted. I am glad that I won, however.
Thanks stanley_pope.
New Challenge later today...

I agree about the rules, and I wish there were some way that we could tell the entries if they make a mistake so they have a chance to correct it before the contest is over. Some of us (not me) are really gifted at seeing and taking a great picture but not so typing or computer literate. Having said that I think Urcinina's photo is striking and deserved the win regardless.

Paul B, Thanks for your comment about corrections and about my photo. I think "Mona Lisa smile" is a wonderful entry as well, and could have won as well.
Regarding those who don't fulfill the requirements, anyone interested can private message the photographer/author and give them a heads up. Since I've got the next challenge, I'll watch the entries myself and hope we'll all help to see that the best(s)(es):) photos in the future, get a chance if they are edited.

Since I don't enter the contest, I really didn't mean to be complaining. It's just something I noticed. As far as photo quality is concerned, I think the winnings were justified.

congrats to the winners...i've never titled any of my entries here...even after receiving pms...i just am not really used to titling my shots...and who's to say urcunina's shot wasn't titled "Re: Challenge #116 Portraits"...the rules just state title in subject line...doesn't say it has to be anything special

The second place entry was undersized, I was taken back when it was pointed out to me, Usually it’s the first thing I check, and pm if it is undersized. Last challenge I pm’d two entries warning about undersized entries. Sorry for the mistake.

Actually it says "Photo Name In Message Subject Line". In this case, the photo was not named. I really see no sense in having rules if they are not inforced.

alright fine...maybe his photo name was "Re: Challenge #116 Portraits" what he had in the subject line...when i resize my submissions for these contests i rename them based on the contests theme...i think there is no point in having that rule...as not everybody gives their photos titles

I think we can use the rules we have. Also I think persons entering out of spec should be informed via a private message and if they edit, they'll be considered.
That's what I'll do for Challenge #117. But even if I didn't, it would be the friendly thing for people visiting the challenge to do.

This forum is great, the members humble and gracious, and the attitudes almost always nourishing.
That said I think were all in agreement to just do it as right as we can, look out for each other, and take our licks as they come. Think this horse is dead by now. Beatings will continue until morale improves. ;-)
