Does anyone know of a camera store or service place that will clean the sensor for you while you wait in the United States?
Also, someone on another thread said they went to a canon service center on the west coast. I thought the only one was in New Jersey. Are there others???

From other posts it would appear that most of the people here clean the sensors themselfs.
I do this and it is very easy and very inexpensive.
There are web sites that take you through the process step by step.

Unfortunately, I don't have the url handy. But, supposedly once you've done it a couple of times, cleaning the sesor yourself gets to be about as annoying as shaving and that's it.
I would recommend doing it yourself.

yeah, but i know someone who did it himself many times successfully but twice he scratched it and now he's deep in the hole with a 10D. He had to get a new sensor put in once, and now its scratched again. I cleaned mine once and it was ok, but i worry about doing it.

What was he using... steel wool.
I've cleaned my sensor on my 10D and MKII probably a couple of dozen times and never had a problem. I use Pec Pads and their liquid solution. This literally takes just a couple of mintues.

I clean mine myself, on both cameras. It was scarry @ first & I don't do it until I see the spots badly. Depending on your location some local shops will do it. Look for an authorized Canon dealer in your area.

I've read many posts about sensor cleaning and people worrying about damaging the sensor, but I've never heard that someone actually damaged his/her sensor. Your friend scratched his sensor twice?! What did he do?
Many people (including me) use the following method:

It works well and it's cheap and easy and you won't scratch your sensor.

Be sure to use a strong blower before going in with the pec-pads. This will blow off fine dust and stuff. Then use the copperhill method.
