The surface sheet is not attached to the rest of the unit along the bottom edge and sides. The top is attached with some sort of glue I assume. It this normal?

i left my plastic shield off. it just made marks on it when I wrote. Are you talking about that layer? I have been using mine for quite a while and don't see one mark on the original layer. I guess I never read the instructions on what that other sheet of plastic is. Hope you like your pad. I can't use painter or photoshop or any other program without it now.

Mine is all one unit and I don't know of anything that would fit what you are describing.

It's for placing a drawing or photo underneath and tracing it...

You think I threw that piece away? Maybe I thought it was trash.

Ok, got it figured out. Called tech support and they said what I seeing is normal. The surface sheet will need to be replaced at some point and this makes it eaier. Here is a link to what i was talking about:

I finally blew air on my tablet and saw the plastic sheet you are talking about. I always thought that was permanantly mounted.

That plastic piece is not transparent like it is on the Graphire series tables so you wouldn't be able to see anything if you put something underneath it. ;)
@colbin4: Mine came with that plastic sheet, too, attached only at the top so I guess it's normal.
Oh, man. I just hate replying to threads only to realize that it's an old one. :|
