Hi to everyone -- you were missed for your cameraderie and amusement value.
After two weeks, we managed to overcome inertia and tear ourselves away from the boredom that was Lake of the Ozarks. I don't know which is worse, a tourist area with or without tourists -- since we were there before and after Labor Day, we got to compare. WalMart was the high point of our trip -- featuring both groceries and garden furniture -- with Bagnell Dam a distant second (Hoover is not staying awake at night worrying).
I played with the G2's remote while aiming it at the folks' bird feeder and took a few cloud pictures which I may post later but but my favorite photographic subject was imported...

We returned to Hong Kong last night to find a typhoon signal hoisted -- finally, a little excitement.
Cheers,
Don

Yep, a pretty strong typhoon is hitting us right now and the whole city went chaotic when people rushed home. Phone lines jammed and the roads were conjested.
BTW, nice picture. The colour is really extraordinary!
Welcome back Don.

Very nicely done, Don! Great colors, focus, framing, subject matter, etc.

Marie,
Yes, it's that ring -- now you know where it's usually kept. Leela got tired of me taking her picture and thought she'd shoot back. It didn't deter me, obviously. Besides the two rings and the green fingernails and the black pearl earring and the flower in her hat, I like the complementary blue in the sunglasses and the camera lens. Thanks for your generous comments.

Griffin,
You're right about the typhoon. I was out running errands and thought I would stop by the store on the way back home. Tried calling on my mobile to find out what we needed and never did get through so I just bought everything I could think of -- not a good financial idea. I wanted to tell everyone in the checkout lines that I'd just returned from two weeks in the states and wasn't one of the pre-typhoon grocery lemmings, but I couldn't see any advantage to it so I kept quiet.
Thanks for your comments -- the colors owe everything to Leela. I was just there to snap them.

Jim,
The subject matter thanks you. :)
Leela's parents are from Kerala in South India -- the setting for Arundhati Roy's great book "God of Small Things" -- but she was born and raised in Penang, Malaysia, home of the world's best fish curry. She has lived in Hong Kong for 22 years, where she owned and operated The Prince of Wales Pub for 17 years before selling it and turning to writing. She's just finished her first novel and is working on a second while she looks for a publisher.
Cheers,
Don

Just thought that Leela may be interested in old (small)photos of Penang which I have here
( scanning in a few of them )
They were taken by a friend who was stationed in Ipoh around 1960
He was a bandsman in the 13/18th Royal Hussars
The British forces were stationed there at that time
and my friend played clarinet and saxaphone
Things , as shown in the photos, are probably pretty much the same now , as then
I have about 15 shots which he himself photographed at that time.
He always enjoyed holidays in Penang when the army got leave and looked forward to it very much
When I was on my way to visit Australia a few years ago ( I was there twice ) I stayed over in Singapore for a few days and would have liked to have made a visit to Penang but couldn't quite make it.
My friend marched and played at two kings funerals in Kuala Lumpar while he was stationed there.
The Kings died within five months of each other !
Congratulations to Leela
I wish her every success with her novel
I wouldn't be surprised if you are writing one also (about Hong Kong...... and district : )
Very best of luck
