CF for G6: Do I need a fast card?

I've purchased a G6 for my girlfriend's birthday. I haven't picked up a CF card yet, because I wasn't sure how fast the G6 can write to the card. So, does the G6 merit getting a fast card like a Lexar 40x or a Sandisk Ultra? Or is a run of the mill CF card sufficient. This card will be dedicated to this camera, so I'm not concerend with moving it forward to a new one in the future.

Don't waste your money on the pro 40X and 80X cards, but any good, reasonable fast card will work fine. Avoid the Kingston regular flash cards, as they are very slow, even though they are very cheap.

I use Viking 512MB cards and they are plenty fast for my G3. They are currently on sale at Amazon.com for $33 after rebate.

I use a 1GB Kingston regular flash card in my G6, this one http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&pro duct_uid=48089 and it works a treat being only around 5 seconds slower than my 40X PQI card with a 70MB file transfer in a USB2 card reader. In everyday shooting you cannot tell a difference.

Like everyone else has stated, your G-Series camera can not take advantage of a high speed CF card. However, it is important to buy a quality, brand-name card. Don't take chances with cheap cards.

I don't know. I've found the 512MB version of this same card to be extremely slow. You don't notice it much in taking photographs, unless you are doing the burst mode or writing RAW files (where you will notice a difference), but you notice it when formatting the card. My Viking 512MB will format in like 10 seconds, whereas this card will take about a minute. Don't know why, but that is what I have found. With the prices of faster cards (like the Viking) coming down to the same levels, it is better to invest the extra $10-15 more for a "faster" card than this very basic card.

I've got a 1 GB Lexar 40x High-Speed Series card for my G6 and it works great.
