Consumers Union is preparing an article on digital cameras for their June 2008 issue of Consumer Reports. For background information, they are asking for input from photographers. Here’s your chance to voice your comments, complaints and wish list at http://blogs.consumerreports.org/electronics/2008/03/send-us-your-di.html

Consumer Reports has never produced a knowledgeable report on cameras. I doubt if that will change.

Consumer Reports never produced anything on anything, but that's my opinion. I have a bunch of people in back of me on that, but you run with them dogs...

I totally agree with you on that. After all, they loved Firestone 500s. Our neighbors used to look at the CR reviews and buy the worst rated item; they were always happy with the outcome.

Back in the early 80's the #1 rated camera by CR was the Mamiya U in the point & shoot catagory. At the store I worked at more than 50 % sold came back for warranty repair

I don't know about that folks. I had a 98 Chevy Blazer, and it was the biggest piece of cr@p you could have ever spent money on. Consumer Reports stated that it was the WORST vehicle ever to buy as a used car. Now, I bought mine new, and it certainly went downhill fast. So I have to agree with them on that one.

Let's at least give them credit for ONE thing right. ;)

I think they are pretty good with cars but some stuff like cameras I don't agree with them on.

Consumer Reports is great at reviewing things for people who know nothing about the product. It works out great because the reviewers are just as clueless about the product as the consumer.

Wow! I'm absolutely astonished! It never occured to me that *anyone* would feel so strongly against Consumer Reports. I've had a subscription for over 37 years and always found CR to provide useful information for making good (not necessarily perfect) choices.

Sorry to have brought it up.

I think they're pretty good.

They give me a good place to start, but they're not my only source.

I re-subscribed when I wanted to evaluate cars recently.

Very helpful with that. They buy them, then report.

Are they perfect? No.

But, they're not idiots, in the main.

I'm kinda surprised as well. They really aren't very bad for most things, but if you are really knowledgable on the subject (like most people on here are with cameras) you might feel that they don't always make the best choices. Personally I think they are quite good overall but like I said previously there are some things I don't agree with them on.
