Calliphora vomitoria or C.vicni ? There seem to be a few flies that are loosely named Bluebottles. I only like the metallic blue versions of the Greenbottles, these dark hairy flies are horrid - but great shots, best possible eye detail.

Great shots. How do you get so close that it doesn't fly off?

Brian, these are awesome shosts. The eye detail is amazing. Did you glue his tongue down to the orange? He seems to really be enjoying it. Great shots.

Thanks for the comments all :)
It may not be beautiful but it is interesting especially with the proboscis extended.
Toby- have to admit I'm not certain on the species, vicinia is described as having reddish jowls below the eyes instead of black which this has, whilst the one below has black there but a reddish beard- assume that one is vomitaria.
Gary- almost, I did put a little honey on it for added attrictiveness :)
michael as MJ suggested- approach slowly and out of any light falling on the subject. Sometimes they fly off and sometimes they don't and if they are busy with something (feeding, bubble blowing or sex ) they take less notice of you.
