I received my new S40 in July. I discovered that my version of Zoombrowser shipped with the box is an old one version 3.1. I found the upgrade on a Canon website to 3.2 but cannot find 3.3 or 3.4
I do feel that I am being short changed....
Anyone know where I can get the 3.3 or 3.4 version from?

Why do you feel that you're being short-changed? When you buy the camera, you buy the software that it ships with. If the company chooses to provide upgrades, then that's their choice. Canon decided to provide 3.2, but it seems they've saved 3.3 and up for the newer driver CD shipped with more recent cameras.
You can order a replacement CD for a nominal cost, and that may have the updated program, but I don't think that would be worthwhile. Myself, I abandoned ZB in favour of WinXP (for organizing) and freeware IrfanView (for basic editing).

I got my S30 last month and it came with 3.2 - I don't know what updates are in the newer versions, but I doubt if they are much better than 3.2, which I don't bother trying to use.

Russ - Can you be be more specific on this? For organizing and slide shows, do you start with the "My Pictures" folder on XP? Do you know if the avi video clips can be incorporated into slide shows?

I've used the Filmstrip viewing mode, but usually I just list the files with details and look at the preview on the left to see 'em. If I want a full size image, I'll open them up in Irfanview.
As for AVIs in slideshows, I'm not sure what you mean. I don't do anything with slide shows, and I don't use the camera for movies very often. Can you be more specific about what you're trying to do?

Russ - Having just come back from a long trip with lots of images, I want to put them together in two forms: a printed album and slide shows. I am a neophyte in digital photography, so I am just working my way through available software.
For a printed album, I have come to the conclusion that the best way is to download from the camera into "My Pictures" with Win XP. I have found this to be simpler and better than ZoomBrowser, and I appreciate the advice on this Board that led me to this. For the album, I have found PhotoRecord to be quite good, although there may be better programs out there.
Now for your question about a slide show, I would also like to arrange my images for an old fashioned slide show (around a computer monitor rather than a screen and projector). This type of presentation has its own place, and is really the only way that you can include your film clips together with your stills, as part of an organized presentation. (Incidentally, when I was shopping for digital cameras, I thought that the ability to take film clips was useless fluff. However, there are times when capturing movement and sound captures a feeling that cannot be done with a still image - as in music and dance presentations, wildlife, etc.). So the question is how to do it. ZoomBrowser didn't do what it claimed to be able to do, and I have deleted it from my computer. I found that I could insert my still images into slides both into PowerPoint and into the Slide Show option of Win XP. (PP is far more powerful for slide shows, because of labeling options, etc.) However, in both cases when I tried to insert my AVI film clips into these slide show programs, I got a message that they did not accept this type of file. I know that this is wrong, since I have long been using AVI digital clips within PP presentations for professional purposes. So the question is how do I make the insertions. It could be as simple as changing the file name extension on the AVI clips that I am trying to insert.

Hmm, I'm not sure what you can do about that. My instinct would be to use powerpoint, which is, after all, designed for slide presentations. You should be able to set up the clips to play automatically when the slide changes.
As for downloading, I use Breezesys Downloader, which I find to be the easiest transfer utility.
