hello all i have some confusion when it comes to monopods.

Im pretty knew to photography and have yet invested in one but i decided i probably should for sports photography mostly to make sure my horizons are correct.

What im confused on, is it the monopods design or the head that you pick to go along with the monopod what determines if u can flip from landscape to portrait with your camara on the fly?

im looking at the manfrotto 680, itll be used with my 40d and 70-200 f/4 L

It's the head or the QR (quick release system)

Not the 'pod itself.
