View Full Version : Entering name into 20D for EXIF data

I read on a different forum about entering your name into the camera (they were discussing a 1D -- at least that's the model I think they were discussing) so it would show in the EXIF info on the RAW files. Looking at the EXIF for my 20D it has a place that says: Camera Owner: Unknown.

I was wondering if it is possible to enter my name into the 20D somehow (I don't remember seeing anything about it in the manual, and I have read it all the way through) and I can't see any facility in the Digital Photo Professional program for doing it.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Raw files have EXIF information? One of the main things that was stopping me from going from jpg to raw is that when I generate jpg files from the raws I don't have the settings embedded in the jpg. Is that possible?

Sorry, I can't help with you question :(

Atleast for the 10D and 300D the camera setting window has a place where you can enter in your name and that would be uploaded into the camera so that all the files it produces has this info.

Depending on the software you use to convert the RAW to JPEG, the JPEG may or maynot contain the EXIF info you are looking for.

I have to work out a decent workflow that'll let me shoot in raw, process in photoshop, then save as jpg with full exif info. If anyone knows how to do this, or it's posted anywhere around here, i'd love to know.

Which software allows you to do that ? Can you please be more specific about the steps that needed to be taken ?

This is done with the camera software. You can put your name in there.

Not sure about the 20D but for the 10D and the 300D you need to install and use the ZoomBrowser software to get your name into the camera.

Yes, I would like to know how to do this as well! Please let us know where this can be done.

It's the EOS Viewer Utility, and I was wrong, it shows the Owner's name in both RAW and JPG EXIF data.

Hook your camera up to the USB port, run the EOS Viewer Utility.

In the OPTIONS menu select Camera Settings. There's a blank that says Owner's Name. Type your name into that blank and the data will be transmitted to your camera and placed in the EXIF data for the next picture you take.

Guess I answered my own question -- pretty silly, huh!

As an aside, I include my phone number along with my name here. Someone's going to have to do some work if they "find" my "stray" camera and "can't find the owner".

Great idea. I think I will do that tonight on my 20D.
