Tomorrow will be the first time actually shooting someone. A friend called and wants me to come over and take some shots of her. I'm not sure of the setting, she's talking about both indoors and outdoor shots. The equipment I have is the DR 300D, 18-55mm ket lens, 28-105mm lens, and a tripod.

I need some general rules of thumbs to keep with me tomorrow when taking shots of her.

Thanks (BTW, as of this Friday I will have had the camera two weeks)

I took my first real portraits about a month ago... they turned out pretty well, but the thing I had most troubles with were shadows.

Thanks Ferox. I'll keep that in mind.

Try using the 28-105 out in the 80 mm range or more. Avoid closeups with a short lens. Watch your histogram. Keep an eye on your backgrounds. Avoid high contrast situations if you can. Make sure your lens or lens shade doesn't leave a shadow.(It shouldn't with the 300)

Thanks Harry. I'll write those down to take with me.
