I am trying to work out the best way to geotag images.
I intend to use the new cannon ids mark 111 with its 21 mega pixels.
I will be shooting from and aircraft.
Now there are a few devices out there for under a hundred pounds but I also heard that if you have a gps then with the right software you can do the same job without any other device the GPS I have is a garmin 296, I use this in the aircraft.
I am also needing software to allow people to view images by way of a postcode or similar.
I am more confused now than I was A couple of days ago with all this additional info.

Depending on your elevation you may have problems getting your coordinates. I have tried mine on commercial flights several times. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt.
There is another thread going about this. Check here (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=428989).

I've just started doing this using an old Garmn 12xl. I think the main requirement of using a GPS in this way is that the unit is capable of recording a breadcrumb trail which can later be matched to your photos.
I use two pieces of software that are available as free downloads.
The first is EasyGPS available from http://www.easygps.com/ This extracts the information from your GPS and creates a file on your PC.
The second is GPicSync available from http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=191804
This compares the time stamp on your photographs to the information in the file created by EasyGPS, and embeds the Lat/Long data in the photo EXIF file.
Obviously your camera and GPS clocks need to be synced for this all to work effectively, but that's it really.

I just saw a device called PhotoTrackr (http://www.gisteq.com/phototrackr.php) that is about the size of a keychain, and basically just records a breadcrumb trail. You can set it to record a point once every second, or up to once every 30 minutes I think. It also comes with software to tag your images after download (probably similar to GPicSync mentioned above). They also have a software version that handles RAW images. Seemed pretty slick, for $130.
