This game is to help those of us who are trying to learn new tricks when it comes to editing.

Here's the breakdown of the game. I will post a picture that I choose, resized to exactly 800 pixels maximum on the long side. Outside of being resized it has to be unedited...meaning no adjustments to any levels, it has to look like it did as it came out of the camera.

The game will last 48hrs and whoever can produce the best edited image (as judged by me) will be picked and it'll be their turn to post their unedited picture for all of us to take a crack at.

The participants must have their "Image Editing OK" turned on and they must provide at least a simple breakdown of how they edited the image, some entrants are a little vague on this point, please give us all details so we can learn and share tips. For instance if you use the unsharp mask tool or Smart Sharpen, provide us with the adjustments you used so others can try them out.

You can post multiple images, but the first image you post will be the one that is judged - all other images will be considered for knowledge and tip use only.

Also, please keep all comments, be they positive or negative, to yourself until after the game has ended.

If you happen to be the winner of the game please start the next one with the title of the game and the following number. For example…the next game should read (Before and After # 40)

This is all about having fun so have at it!!!

This game will end on Saturday, March 29, 2008 at 6pm PST

This picture was taken in Canada with a little P&S, so I couldn't bracket my exposure or auto compensate. ... Let's see what you can do with it!!

Ok, I'm sure there will be a hundred better ways to do this,
...but I thought I'd try with my limited Photoshop knowledge!

Curve adjustment, increased saturation.
Flipped vertically - history (not so familiar with other mirror tools)
Marquee "water edge" - ocean ripple - history to soften ripple
Burnt/dodged selected areas
Inserted flare
Colour adjustment
Border and writing

Sorry for flooding the town... :-)

Cropped
Added a warming filter
Added a flare
Added a radial blur
Adjusted hue/saturation - might've gone a little too much into a pink tone
Selective noise reduction - mainly the low-lying areas
Added a little contrast

This one was a little hard because I tried to create the rest of the mountain but it was fun :).

-cloned mountain to reshape it.
-contrast (about 3 different kinds)
-added clouds
-added fog since there was already some there it looks like.
-added color to the trees & mountain
-used a black and white brush to added detail on some parts (low opacity and on softlight)
-added vignette & border.

Vision exceeded my skill on this one, so I went a different direction

Crop
Increased blues in sky, warmed the greens
Boosted contrast
Fogged the bottom of the valley
Whitened up the mountain considerably
Added a few layers of noise
Nik Polaroid Filter - First time I found a use that looked decent!
Border via gradient + texturizer filter + gaussian blur on max

OK, although we only had 5 entries this time they were all good. ( I think since this is the end of Spring Break for over half the schools, people were preoccupied; I noticed the number of views for this one was less than half of normal for B&F. ... Hopefully the next one will see the normal number of participants!!.

Anyway, I found it to be nearly a tie between BitterSweet and SQuiP. Although SQuiP totally flooded the town (I hope they had flood insurance ;)) the shoreline was quite good and it reminded me of numerous mountain lakes I've hiked to. But BitterSweet took this one by a sliver. ... The picture is so crisp I feel as if I can walk right into it. I was hoping to see a version that would show how PP could take that image and make it really tangible. ... That was really good!!

OK, Tracey, you're up for B&F # 40 !!

I'm glad that you liked my edit sorry I couldn't figure out what to do with the original clouds.

SQuiP- yours was very creative I wouldn't have guest anyone would have done that.
