Where can I order square (4x4) prints online?

The title says it all. I can't tell if MPix does odd sizes or not, and no square sizes were listed.

Any ideas?

Your best bet is to size the photo at 4x4 and have printed on 5x7 or 4x6 paper. Then trim them down.

If you find someone that will print 4x4 they will probably charge an arm and leg for the odd size.

ProLabExpress (http://www.prolabexpress.com/)does square format as well but it looks like the smallest is 5x5. But, you don't have have a tax id and go through a big registration process like WHCC and I have been more than happy with their service and quality.

i routinely print odd (non standard) sizes for weird frames. To produce a 4x4, i'd print on 4x6 and trim the excess.

1. do a custom crop in PS with dimensions of 4x4 to get the image you want to print.

2. flatten layers and then use the rectangular selection tool to select the entire 4x4 image and copy to the clipboard.

3. click on the new file button, and select the 4x6 profile.

4. paste the 4x4 image, then right-click and select free transform.

5. WHILE HOLDING DOWN THE SHIFT KEY (which maintains aspect ratio), click and drag one of the corner handles to ensure that the pasted image perfectly fits onto the 4x6 canvas (you'll obviously have a 2" white section on one side where there is no image). save as an appropriate jpg at whatever quality level you require/desire.

6. upload the jpg to your favourite online print shop (I use Costco) and treat the file as if it is a 4x6 print (which it is).

7. carefully cut the 2" white section off when print is received.

I routinely print very odd ball sizes, since my wife is notorious for finding the "perfect frame" with a less than standard print size. :rolleyes:

of course, my process above could be the long way around the problem. it works for me and takes me about 60 seconds, so i've stuck with it. there could be many other ways to achieve the same end.

by the way, i do the same thing to get a 12x12 print (for which we have several frames). The Costco I get my prints done at can do a 12x18 print, so i send a 12x18 image that really has the 12x12 image we want along with a 6" white zone on one side. a straight edge and an xacto (sp?) knife make short work of the white part. :) Actually, when i pick-up at Costco i nicely ask them to trim the white part and they always oblige.

I realize that I could do the 4x6 method and trim the excess, but I'm making about 100 prints of this square picture, and wondered if I could save time by eliminating the trimming process.

Mpix does 5x5, and 12x12. They also have 4x5, if you wanted to go the trimming route.

ProLabExpress and Mpix would charge the same per print but ProLab doesn't charge shipping on orders over $15 and if you order 101 prints, you get them at $0.50 instead of $0.59. So, you'd save $13+.
