Will this combination (for my old pol-filter) obscure any "vital parts", such as focus-lamp etc.?

I just bought the LensMate and the 52mm step-up-ring and used it with my Nikon circular polarizing filter and didn't have a problem with it not working. However, I did have a difficult time trying to use the LCD to adjust it. I'm curious how others have dealt with this problem.

I find I can use the LCD to adjust the polarizing filter in situations where it makes much difference. For example, shooting bodies of water, I can definitely see glare reduction in the LCD.

Not as easy is trying to adjust for best sky color.

I just learned that to be most effective for the sky, it needs to point ~90 degrees from the sun. Point your index finger at the sun with your thumb straight out. Now rotate your thumb from horizon to horizon while keeping your index finger pointed at the sun. The arc described is where the polarizer will dramatically darken the sky. Point your polarizer at the sky along the line of your thumb and turn the filter. Should be pretty obvious on the LCD.
