What do you think about this lighting setup for this studio? The studio is 8 1/2 feet by 15 1/2 feet. The ceiling is 10 feet. Is this enough or too little or would you get anything different? All advice is appreciated and thanks in advance! Oh, this will be for taking portraits!

With the room size you indicated I would go with AB400's, or else you'll be operating at 1/32 power, and Bee's don't work their best at such low power levels.

Your shooting space is small, abandon the idea of a Large softbox, as it will cause you and your subject to be pushed into the next room (exaggerating, but not by much!). The small widtth space forces lights to be close to subjects, and close lights do not have to be physically large lights.

If you're going to use a softbox in that size space I would recommend a smaller box like a 24" x 32". I don't know if Paul Buff makes one that size but many other companies do and you can use the standard AB speedring for any of them.

So, if i'm right, you all think I should use 3 ab 400's and a 24X32 softbox?

Using the lower power strobes and smaller softbox is definitely your best way to go.

I also agree, medium SB should be more than enough. You can also look at Impact 9.5' heavy duty stands which are $40 at B&H.
