I'm interested in a list of supported lenses with the 1.4x, including which lenses retain full or partial AF. A list that included non Canon lenses would also be helpful.
I'm thinking about the 120-300 f2.8, but if I bought it I'd like to use the 1.4 with it.
Any info or links is appreciated. I've heard a lot of great things about the 1.4x, but not a lens support list.
Maybe I can use it on my 50mm 1.8 lol.

Canon 1.4x compatability (http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=ModelDetailAct&fcategoryid=154&mode lid=7462)
You can use a a third party teleconverter such as a Tamron (pro) which I have read reviews on that say it is as good as Canon. The Tamron does not have the protuding lens like Canon does.

Not sure about non-Canon lenses but the following is from Canon's website.
This tele extender can be used with fixed focal length lenses 135mm and longer (except the 135mm f/2.8 Softfocus lens), and the EF 70-200 f/2.8L, 70-200 f/2.8L IS, 70-200 f/4.0L, and 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L IS zoom lenses. Superb optically, it preserves the image quality of the lens it's mounted to and multiplies its focal length 1.4x. Effective aperture is reduced by one f-stop; autofocus is possible on any EOS camera when combined with a lens having an f/4 or faster maximum aperture. The new version II maintains the outstanding optics of the previous version, and adds enhanced weather-resistant construction, and improved anti-reflective surfaces in the barrel.

B&H has a very informative list of compatibilite Canon lenses including a bunch of useful footnotes and adjusted f-stops.

If you check the Teleconverter Link (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=41922) in the EOS sticky.. you'll find info for Canon and Sigma TC's...
It does not list Non Canon lens compatibility for Canon TCs
BUT You can at least look up what Sigma lenses will work with Canon TC's
In essence.. the Sigma lens chart for Sigma TCs would be completely interchangeable with a list using Canon TCs.
IE: Any Sigma lens that works with a Sigma TC will also work with a Canon TC.
More specifically,.. The Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8 WILL WORK with a Canon 1.4X T-con

Correct. It actually works very well.
If you are looking at 2x TCs though, the Sigma 2x TC works better on the 120-300mm than the Canon one does.

That's where I was sorta heading... the 2x and 1.4x on the 120-300. Any sample shots at 300mm w/ the 2x tele on it? I'm interested to see how that lens performs at 600mm (and is it f4.5 at that point?)
Thanks!

You might want to brush up on your math skills..
5.6 @ 600mm (300mm X2 = 600mm,... 2.8X2 = 5.6 :? )

Yeah I need a chart of true 'stops' For some reason I was thinking 2.8, 3.5, 4.5 but then I realized that it doubles the f stop, so obviously it would be 5.6

I don't often use it with the 2x TC, I don't really like it... I think it's a step too far, but here's one I managed to find.
(Full size 3.34MB file so you 56K guys stay clear unless you want a long wait, OK?)

10D + Sigma 120-300mm EX + Sigma 2x EX TC.
600mm,ISO 200,F/8,1/640th
The biggest problem I find is that AF slows a little too much with the 2x on for me to track race cars accurately (It's OK with the 1.4x) and of course the image quality suffers a little (again not such an issue with the 1.4x).
Oh, and of course finding enough light in the UK to shoot an f/5.6, 600mm, non-IS lens is also something of a problem.

Oh I see,. yes common mistake.
The full stops from 2.8 are...
2.8, 4, 5.6, 8, 11, 16
But there are all those fractional stops in between that make it more complicated :?
