the next thing (what Sigma flash?)

ok so many of you have said to complete my setup I need to get a flash.
I really like the Sigma 500 flash, there are 3 different kinds though.
500 DG ST TTL 150 on pricegrabber.com
500 Super TTL 200 on price
500 DG Super E-TTL II 205 on price

anyone have any of these and should I just get the DG Super cause it probably has the most options?

done a bit of research and there is are some differences, but i'm not sure how to make sense of it all.

Why not just get a used 550 EX???...........a lot of used ones coming around....especially with the 580 EX in the horizon. Trust me, you'll feel much better with the Canon one.

Hey ctlz,

I bought a used 500 DG Super, I am very happy with it but I am sure that the 550EX is better. I made a few posts back when I bought it about the differences. The 550 has a powerpack plug, the 500DG has an optical slave built in, 550 is more powerful (55 vs 50). They both seem to be able to cooperate as master and slave (not tested by me though).

I seriously recommend the fredmiranda.com forums. I have bought almost all my used gear from there and I have had really good luck. I have also noticed that there have been a few 550EX's go for sale recently. If you have any questions about the 500DG S I would be happy to help you out.

I know that if I buy another flash it will likely be a grip style metz. The 500DGS has everything I need for a clip-on flash.

the reason why i would like to stay away from the canon 550ex is cause it's quite pricey and i've heard of some that complain that it's really cheaply built.

i'll look for some used flashes out there and see what there is.

Well, there's "dropped and broken" meaning dropped from table height onto a carpeted floor, which shouldn't happen, then there's the "dropped and broken" meaning dropped from shoulder height onto hard concrete, which would be hard to prevent and still have the device be light enough to use.

Delicate electronics aren't meant to be dropped, period. I wouldn't take that as a sign of being cheaply built. I know that if I dropped my 20D, even onto a carpeted floor, I would expect it to require service to work properly again.

I would take any "dropped and broken" meaning cheaply built comments with a grain of salt.

I would suggest going for the 580ex if you've got the money (I plan on upgrading to one when I can put the money aside.)
