Can anyone give me some tips on the best aa rechargeables to buy? I need a good charger too. I hear there are some smart chargers available but I've never used this stuff.

wow, going to run by there today...thanks for the heads up.
Btw, if they are listed at 23.99...just have them look it up on the web. They will certainly match their web site prices..Ive done this more then a few times.

Maha chargers are superb. Eneloops and Imedion low discharge NiMH batteries are great, as are Powerex normal NiMH batteries

question--
Do you have to buy the eneloop charger? I have a large energizer charger i use since it can charge all my batteries (AA, AAA, 9v, everything)
I will post back at work from my phone, going to run into CC on the way, should be around 3pm.

Thank you for the i9nfo on batteries. I was confused as to what I really needed. I guess anything over 2000 is ok?
BTW...I'm currently trying to get a moderator to help me change my user name. I gave my email address by mistake so if you're wondering why I would do that...

Go for the Eneloops. they are low discharge NiMH that will hold their charge at more than 80% for a year. You can get them at thomas distributing.

I have always wondered who actually keeps the batteries in a flash and doesn't use it for 6 months to a year? That is the main strong point of the Eneloops. I can see where they are good for remote controls and other things that you don't need to recharge regularly anyways, but I use my flash a heck of a lot more than two recharges a year. If I didn't, I sure as heck would be taking the batteries out of the thing.
I just don't see the point in paying twice as much for rechargeable batteries because they can sit for a year and still be good.:rolleyes:

I bought three packs at 9.99 and a charger and an Eneloop charger for now. If everything works well with rechargeables I plan to invest in the Maha charger on down the road. Thanks, everyone for all the help!

I use my flash about every 3 months, I hardly shoot inside (one example). I leave the batteries in it so it is ready to go. Nothing bad is going to happen in 3 months.
The problem I've had with the non low discharge ones is having them charged when I need them. It isn't a great safety practice to leave batteries on a charger forever and if you take them off, they start to discharge at about 1% per day or so (unlike Eneloops). I have a couple of chargers, but I usually need more batteries than that when I have to go and I don't have time to wait for the couple of hours to recharge dead ones.
Depending on the charger, it is also not a good idea to leave batteries on them indefinitely. The better chargers are expensive.
Too, I use Eneloops in everything now. I don't care about the cost of them, because I'm not using alkalines in anything anymore (remotes, flashlights, electronics, motion sensors, window blinds, etc...). The cost avoidance and the trash with alkalines are easily worth it.
No doubt about it, the Eneloop and low discharge NiMH technology is well worth it. I would expect these to replace standard NiMH shortly.

Did you buy the 2 battery charger? Hows long does it take to charge?
I have my energizer charger ive had for a while, will do AA, AAA, C, D, 9V...im hoping this is ok to use with my eneloops...i havent charged them yet as they came precharged.
I know its probably ok, but to be sure...its ok to use this charger with my eneloops? I use it for my 2500mAh energizer.
