I tried placing my lights differently and it seems to be producing much better overall results.
I had been placing a hair light on a boom over the model (good thing I have 12 foot ceilings), but had been disappointed because I would occasionally get flare when using my wider lens (16-35L), plus if the model moved to much it would not highlight the desired area.
Why I didn't think of it before I don't know, but I decided I had to try something different and it dawned on me that I had this really big white reflector called the ceiling. while it might not work on location, it seems to have worked great in my home studio. The stupid part to me was I had been bouncing a worklight of the ceiling the whole time for two reasons. One it gave me enough light so the camera would focus, but not so much it overwhelmed the strobes. and second It gave a nice yellow/orange cast to the pictures (making it more outdoors like).
So the result is better pictures and in addition it appears that I will get more utility out of my high-powered AB lights as I will switch my AB800 (boucing off ceiling) for a AB1600 and put the AB800 in the softbox, which will give me overall more control of my lighting, without having to resort to trading out the AB1600's which I have avoided, but been thinking about.
Thank goodness for high, white, empty ceilings.
Just thought I would share this also, while I waited for software to download.
