Today I went to a local Lowepro distributor, who has the largest stock of bags, cases and other accessories made by this company. I was looking for a small camera bag - I wanted a bag for "everyday use", as my Mini Trekker was getting very heavy with all that stuff inside, not to mention the size of the bag. I wanted a bag for a 10D body with just one or two lenses and some spare space for the accessories - CF cards, batteries, a place for a wallet and other papers.

As I was looking at the bags (and there were PLENTY of them, I assure you), I ran into a few possible candidates - those were the bags from the Topload and the Nova series. Then I saw the Stealth Reporter - a nice bag, but still it seemed too large for me. And finally, I came to a shelf with a smaller bags, most of which were for point-and-shoot cameras. And suddently I saw it - the Omni Sport bag !

For those who haven't seen this baby, believe me - it's small. It has slim profile, which means that it's not thicker than the average briefcase. But what a surprise - the bag can hold my 10D, 2 lenses (one attached), a flash and also has inner pocket for CF cards, filters, spare batteries etc. Or it can hold my 10D with 3 lenses ! The capacity of this bag is unbelievable for its size - you should see it to believe that it can actually hold all this equipment. I managed to sqeeze inside the 10D, the Sigma 15-30 (not a smallish lens by any account), Canon 100mm Macro (not a small lens either) and the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8.

The big advantage of this bag is the unique feature which allows you to conveniently access the camera from the top, without actually opening the entire bag.

I recommend this little bag for everyone who's looking for an everyday solution to carry his gear (not lots of it of course) conveniently. Here is the link - http://www.lowepro.com/Products/Hard_and_Soft_Shell/classic/Omni_Sport_and_Sport_Extreme.aspx (you can store this little bag inside an optional hard case - not very useful for my needs).

That's a pretty neat trick!
That thing looks pretty darn tough too.

The bag isn't very tough, but I guess it can handle some abuse ...

Is it fairly well padded, and well-made?

Oleg, does your 10D have a battery grip on it?

Is it fairly well padded, and well-made?

It's extremely well made and quite nice padded. More padding would increase the external size or decrease the internal capacity (some Tamrac backpacks are made like this - very thick padding, but also very little internal space). My Mini Trekker AW is better padded, but it has more room for it.

Oleg, does your 10D have a battery grip on it?

No, it doesn't. There is some spare space above or beneath the camera (about an inch or so), but I don't know whether the battery pack would fit. I'll see if I can borrow the grip from a friend in the next couple of days.

I have a LowePro handy backpack, which lets me put my camera and a few lenses in the bottom, and lets me use the top for other stuff.

Can certainly vouch for the Omni series - had the Omni Pro for many months - really well made and as Olegis says the top opening for access to camera is very useful.

am considering the Omni sport as well for lighter use

More bags than sense

I had two lowepro backpacks that were complete junk. I returned one and sent the other back to the manufacture. The zippers broke on both.

I'm sticking with Tamrac. They're quality... and made in the US.

I'm sorry about your experience with Lowepro bags. My experience however was excellent - I have own 4 Lowepro bags (Nova 1, Orion Trekker, Mini Trekker and now the Omni Sport), and they all were great.

i love lowepro bags! i have never had a problem with them at all..

i owuld be interested in findin a shoulder bag that will carry my 10d/ battery grip and my wide angle 17-40 lens...

i bought the AW75 Toploader (i htink thats the model) that will fit the cam and lens but it is very long. long enough to hod the 10/big ed and my 70-200 f2.8 with a couple of inches to spare at the bottom.

this bag is almost as bulky as my minitrekker so i would like to find something smaller.

i wish i could find a toploader that is not as deep but can manage the big-ed

Thanks for nice suggestion, Oleg! Omni Sport might be exactly what I am looking for - to fit exactly 10D, flash and two-three lenses. Unfortunately I have not seen this bag in our local shops. I got Nova 5 (too big for most practical purposes) and Orion Trekker (nice one, but sometimes I would not need the upper part, and prefer rather shoulder bag), based on them Lowepro makes a fine job.

I also own LowePro Photo Trekker Classic and Nova 4AW for almoast two years now. Trekker backpack stores all gadgeds not needed for daily use. Nova 4 is used for one day or over weekend trips with EOS, flkash na 2-3lenses.

I am very happy with quality of LowePro gear.
