Thoughts on the Sigma 18-50 f2.8 EX DC

I am looking at getting a new lens and I thought I had better check out the wide scene.

Anyone use this that can offer a comparison to the 17-40 f4 other than aperture difference? I definitely want to know how sharp this thing is too.
