I have been noticing that the exposure of flash pictures when view in the camera LCD look much brighter than they do when I import them into Lightroom. Then I end up having to push the exposures and play with curves in LR.
Why does it look darker in LR than the camera LCD?
LR presets are Exposure - 0, Recovery - 0, Fill light - 0, Blacks - +5 and brightness +50. So if anything with brightness at +50, I would think they would look brighter in LR than LCD??

Are you shooting raw or jpeg?
Also remember to check the histogram in camera to get a better idea of exposure vs eyeballing the camera processed image on the lcd screen.

Adjust the LCD's brightness to suit.

Both Eric and Tony are correct. Remember that if shooting in raw then the image on the LCD is a jpeg rendering of the raw file. So the camera makes the adjustments just like if you were shooting jpeg.

The purpose of the camera's LCD is not to verify exposure. For that you need to use either of the two histograms on your camera. Its quite possible that the LCD is set too bright and that fools you into thinking an image is properly exposed when in fact it is underexposed. Again, the only sure fire way to check exposure is with either the Brightness or RGB histograms. And if shooting RAW, Expose to the Right (http://www.luminous-landscape.com/tutorials/expose-right.shtml).

Shame on me.
You all are right, with the 40D large LCD I guess I have fallen into relying on that and gotten away from looking at Histrogram.
And yes I do remember recently adjusting the brightness of the LCD.
Some times I guess we just need to step back and think.
Thanks for bringing to my attention.
PS and yes I do shoot in RAW, so yes the camera will be adjust on playback. Is there a way to adjust playback to show results as actually take?
