Is the red cast from the gels unreasonable? This was shot as JPEG, my RAW images I can correct pretty easily. I'm not sure what, if anything, I can do with this.

C&C welcome!

The colour is reasonable - depending upon your objectives. Typically, if you are shooting a dance production, the lighting is an integral part of the performance - as important as the costume and even the choreography. Lighting intent "should" be preserved.

On the other hand, if you think that colour casts are "impolite" (in the same general category as despicable digital noise:-), then you might choose to remove the cast.

On the whole, I personally never change the lighting intent unless the images is specifically delivered for newspaper printing. The visual intent of the lighting designer can usually be approximated by shooting with the camera set to tungsten.

Thank you, I didn't think this one was too bad either. As you say , this is how the performance was lit. But occasionally I get the "Why is her/his skin red?" and I try to explain about the colored gels used to light the stage. Black & white is much easier! Your eye says "that color grey is skin tone."
