if only the lights down the side weren't green.

Something is screwy with the perspective - I don't know exactly what. I tried to fix it (Well, spent 3 minutes trying to fix it, then got distracted - that's ADD for you!) but could only get it different, not better.

Although it is a stunning shot, great colors (even the greens), sharp focus, neat background, etc, etc, etc, it does not feel good to look at.

Sorry I couldnt be of any help. I know this is vague, I am usually more precise, but it is just some intangable thing that I don't like.

thanks for the reply to both of you, im honored to have comments from photographers like you two
as for radtechs comment on the "intangible bad", i got the same feeling and spent a little more than 3 mins on it only to discard it afterwards; there is apparently no way around that... maybe the energy of the place, dont know
thanks anyway

Its the colours, the contrast and the subject.

Blue should be friendly and relaxing, yet they sky is ugly and angry and full of tension.
That then contrasts with the angry orange colours in the building, and its very classical well proportioned arcitecture.
And of course the green lights down the side just add a sense of something almost foul.

I think its a great photo!
I can't keep my eyes off it, trying to resolve all the conflicts in my mind.
The final one being the subject and how its presented, Iv always thought of religion as being somewhat violant and opressive, and here we have an icon of one of the worlds most powerful religions looking very violant and opressive, a total contrast to how its normaly portrayed.

moppie i think u have a good point... havent thought of it that way but certainly now that i read your post and look back at the pic i can see why maybe its a bit disturbing.
certainly i didnt expect it to come out this way but im kinda glad it did, it does look oppresing and imponent. after all isnt it meant to be that way?
thanks for the opinion

I think the two things that bother me are the green lights and the dark clouds. On the plus side, I love how the dome seems to connect the building to the sky in its color change. As a whole, I like this photo. nice job.
