After going through a major fiasco with my 20D and 17-40, I'm happy to say that I am back onboard!!!
But not without some compromise!!!
I was really devastated and depressed these past few weeks without my camera. When Canon mailed back the "unrepaired" 20D and lens, I didn't even have the heart to open the package. I stuck it in the closet and buried it underneath all my old clothes...........I just didn't want to be reminded of my silly mistake.
I thought long and hard on what my next step was going to be. I even thought of switching to Ni**n!!! (thier D70 w/ rebate was really tempting)..............but in the end, I sold my 70-200 f2.8L and settled for a good deal on a used 10D and a brand spankin' new Sigma 20 f1.8 (the guy from Adorama actually gave me a discount after hearing my story........don't tell anybody!!!).
To be able to hear that shutter click again!!!.............ahhhh, its like reuiniting with an old friend. :D
I must say that this experience has been very humbling for me. And I would like to thank once again this wonderful forum and all the people who makes this place a community.
Go 10D!!! It's not that bad really  no really, I'm serious...............its not that bad.

Ya know, there are times in life when sheet just happens. Rather then dwell on it it's best to just forget it and move on.
Although i didnt wreck my camera, i did crash my truck. The total cost of that was $700 after tickets, and deductanbles. I frequently think of that in terms of wanted glass and how frustrating it is. I remember your original thread where you said "At night all i can think about is what i could have done differntly", i can relate...trust me. I'm sure most of us can.
That said, i think your doing the right thing in just accepting that it happend, cut your losses, and move on.
Congrats, and welcome back. To be honest i was thinking of you the other day and wondering how long it would be. Good to see it wasnt all that long.

Hey, you know there may well be a few of the members here feeling your pain and willing to contribute to your next 20d?
If you can get everyone to donate say $5 over the next few weeks for a fellow member, then ......
Either way, glad you have the tools to see the light again :)

Congratulations on getting up to speed again so quickly.......or at least nearly so. The 10D is a very capable camera, and you'll be just fine with it.
Now, let's not do any coastline sunsets, please.

Just recently, when I came out of the restaurant one of the suspensions of the car had collapsed. Want to know the repair cost, it's $3,200
So as TQ said: sheet happens. I just swallowed it and moved on.
I'm glad you are on track again. Good luck w/ the 10D.
Btw, I'm surprised that Canon didn't/couldn't repair the lens.

Glad to hear you have moved on and are back in the frame. I still use and get good pictures from my 10D so it could be a lot worse.
As a thought, there are people who will embed objects in blocks of perspex. Would make a hell of a paperweight!!!

davidwegs - I was thinking that ;-).........but its cool........
belmondo - I will not let this experience stop me from taking sunsets by the coast..............this time though, I will use a 400 f5.6.........so at least I'll have a good working distance from the water
Doc F - thats what I said!!! ewww..........but at least its not the Rebel.
Olegis - I sure will!!! I was shooting with it last night (in my room), and the difference from the 20D was really minimal........
:)
aam1234 - YIKES!!! thats a lot of cash!!! I was surprised they couldn't fix the lens too...........(I don't even think they opened it!!! I will seek a 2nd opinion).
chirs.bailey - paperweight............good idea!!! or a doorstop........I was also thinking bookend :-)
.............aite guys!!! I think TQ summed it up best, SHEET DOES HAPPEN!! I hope that will be the first and last camera I break.
