First time I have seen one of these on our Rosemary. They are so pretty when the sun shines on them.

Not ideal shots but it was a little breezy when I took them, so these are all I managed. (I also need to get back in the swing again of taking insect shots )

Thanks everyone :-)

Must do better next time lol.

PS - actually, I have just ordered an extension tube for my 60mm so it will be interesting to see how insect shots come out using that.

That's a really good-looking little beetle, and it seems like he was very busy too climbing all over the rosemary. Well done!

Many thanks :D Yes, quite the buzy beetle lol.

Thank you too :D The colours were amazing when the sun shone on it - I was quite surprised how the colour changed from the view below. Certainly a very attractive beetle.

good shots, difficult beetle to expose correctly. The bad news is that their grubs will destroy your Rosemary and Lavender, I warned them at work about this and sure enough the plants are now dying out.

Oh my god Toby, I had no idea!! Had I known that, I might have photographed them and then squashed them (seriously I would). I have two fabulous Rosemary plants and 2 very mature lavendar all along the same row on the rockery, it will be a disaster!

Next step then, look out for them and kill them! Thanks for the warning - hope I am not too late to avoid losing them.

What a shame such an attractive insect is a pest. Super shots, Linda.

You can kill the beetles and any larvae (5-8mm long)- its the larvae that do the damage I think. Quite a new addition to this country, first seen in 1994.

Thanks Toby - I guess I would recognise the larvae when I saw them? Trouble is I would assume the larvae are at the base of the plant damaging the roots - now that will be very difficult to get at where they are all positioned.

Typical, another invading species that causes damage

Hi Mark - thanks for the comment above :D and yes, the link worked perfectly, thanks for posting that. Another damaging beetle then - shame they didnt get a real close up of that one so that it can be easily identified when you see it.

I found the information sheet on the RHS website earlier and from what they have written, the Rosemary Beetle is slowly but surely taking a hold in this country.

Just think, who would have thought a macro forum would be the place to spread info like this to make people aware of dodgey bugs.

Every time I pass the Rosemary now I glance over it but havent seen any since Sunday, so I reckon they have gone down lower and are breeding
