I've just been copying some edited and unedited D60 jpeg images to and from my desktop PC to my new laptop with a USB bridge. On my desktop I've recently got Breezebrowser which I also copied over to the laptop via the bridge (not sure if this is within the terms of the license !)
On the desktop Breezebrowser still opens my old images OK no matter how many times I've edited them with Adobe or ACDSee. But once I have transferred the same images to the laptop via the bridge, although it will still open the thumbnails and show the full file details (lens and camera settings etc) of any untouched original images it just won't show the full size images of these. Also, all it will show for images I have already played around with on the desktop is the basic properties (I realise the other date was already lost in editing) with the thumbnails just having a red cross on them. The help manual says this means they have been corrupted but although I've tried some of the help tips about restoring thumbnails etc the problem is still there.
Other programs such as Adobe and Picture and Fax Viewer still open all the copied images full size with no problem at all.
Could this be because the desktop where I first downloaded the images is running XP Home with the NTFS file system and the laptop has XP Professional with FAT 32 ? And if it's that, why do none of the other softwares have a problem with this ? Other files such as Excel etc can be transferred and opened fine too.
On the same subject can anyone tell me why FAT32 file systems are still being pre-loaded (this is a brand new Compaq notebook) when Microsoft apparently recommend NTFS as a better system ? I believe I should be able to convert the laptop to NTFS but I understand it's a one way option so I don't want to do it if there are drawbacks or do it at all if there's nothing much to gain.
Cheers
