I was just wandering how you get a media pass even if you're not part of the media (newspaper, tv, etc.). How did some of you gain access to major league baseball games even if your not part of the media?
Please help me. Thanks!!

I thought media pass was for the media.

The only way anyone gets into the photo wells is if they have photo credentials and credentials are granted by organizations/teams within MLB rules and guidelines. The rules and guidelines apply to all levels of professional baseball to include minor league organizations and photographers must be affiliated with someone that MLB recognizes as a bona fide client.
Jerry's got it right.

Become part of the media.
Unless you know somebody who knows somebody who would be willing to help you out it's going to be hard. In my experience trying to get credentials they want to know who you are and why you want that kind of access. Others want to know how it will benefit them and still others don't want students, hobbyists, or just someone who wants to take cool pictures that close to the event participants.
At least this has been my experience locally. Many pro-organizations only give access to the top media and grant credentials to you because the media outlet requested it. See if you can shoot for your local media, that may help. Other than that you'll need a contact who is willing to help you. Good luck.

There are trends developing where media passes are purchased by media companies.
The rugby league wants to charge the newspapers access.
Freedom of press vrs. free publicity.
Thats entertainment!

I've seen this question asked a ton on here and the simple answer is already posted - be part of the media. There's darn good reason they don't hand out media passes to just anyone, they are for those promoting the team through media outlets and letting some fan just come in and shoot isn't good for anyone. Heck there's a lot of self proclaimed photogs who are no more than fans with cameras and abuse the media passes they get - and sooner or later are blackballed or banned. That's usually in the minor leagues as those shooting big league games should know better. MLB also has put a lot of restrictions on media and there's some organizatioins that are legit media that dont get passes!

but freedom of press is free publicity... there it's someone wants to charge you to make an ad for them... media boycott of rugby would be great... it'de be the writer's strike all over again:rolleyes:
