After discovering that DPP 1.1 Raw software has a a couple of bugs (demosaic artifacts, and purple fringing problem) I decided to switch to the standard Canon EVU software.
So far, things were great. But, tonite I shot some University Volleyball at ISO1600 and ISO3200.
I looked at my converted images from EVU, and they all have this weird "blotching" or something. It's very odd and very bad.
The extracted jpgs are fine, as are the images produce with PS CS raw.
Now I really can't wait for C1 Pro.
HERE (http://www.mts.net/~lftbrain/20d/evu.jpg) is an example of what I mean. The image is about 1mb, from a ISO1600 shot developed with EVU.

I see what you mean.
I had that very problem on an image a long time ago and was told that it was a color gamut problem. Gee, don't you hate that?

Yup, I hate that!
2 Raw programs down, 2 to go.
Well, Photoshop CS isn't bad, but the colour reproduction isn't the best.
Can't wait for C1 Pro.
It does look like a colour gamut problem, but it must be software (EVU) related because the extracted jpgs, and Raw conversions in photoshop don't have this problem at all.
But all the images I took tonite at ISO1600 and ISO3200, all 80 of them, show this problem. It's very bad!

For what it's worth, when I had that same problem, it was also a hot pink background that got blotchy.

I can't parse this message.

Sorry, did your blotching issue happen with a Raw conversion using EVU software?

I had a normal RAW file and used the Canon RAW image converter directly, with nothing changed. The resulting TIF had weird blotches of gray that should have been hot pink.
However, I have had only two that way out of slightly more than 10,000, so I am not going to stay awake at night worrying about it.

drisley: See my post on EVU vs DPP. Same thing happened to me. I added pics as pbase is now working,

So, is this some kind of color gamut problem, or something else?

All of my ISO1600 and above shots show this problem with EVU! :x
But, I'm really starting to like the Photoshop Raw interface now!
I just wish the colours were more accurate.

My D60 does not go any higher than ISO 1000, and I seldom get to even ISO 800 with it.
