a newb question im sure, but why do people go n shoot ducks to test their new camera/lens?

I think it is something that started on this forum and it just snowballed into what it is today. It is very rare to find a duck close to where i live. pos

It's mostly just a running joke here. There is absolutely no value in using a duck rather than your shoe to test the new equipment.

its a well know fact that they appear once L glass is purchased. They are drawn to the big whites and make for great subjects.
