" MICRO MAGIC! When CompactFlash cards first came into the market, they were pretty good. You could get up to 256 megs of storage on something the size of a big postage stamp. Then came "The MicroDrives" -- even better -- more capacity in the same space. Well you haven't seen anything until you've seen the new Magicstor 2.2 gigabyte MicroDrive. You get more then DOUBLE the storage capacity for a comparably priced IBM MicroDrive. Great for Digital Cameras, PDAs or MP3 player's. The Magicstor drive provides 2.2 gigabytes of high-capacity, high-performance removable storage in a one-inch square MicroDrive (also called CF+ / Compact Flash Plus, etc) form factor. You'll be amazed that they can put so much into so little of space. This Magicstor MicroDrive integrates with a variety of handheld devices through use of the industry-standard CF+ Type II (MicroDrive format). Plus, its so small you can literally take it almost anywhere. Geeks everywhere would love to have this high capacity MicroDrive, so be the first on your block with it. LIVE SMART...BUY IT TODAY! "

No, this MD dosen't work with DRebel, please do a search by "magicstor" on this forum and/or on google, you will find lots of terrible stories.

Do not buy the MagicStor. Bad, bad stuff. Get Hitachi or IBM MD's.

I posted a thread recently on a great deal I found for a Hitachi 4Gb microdrive for $155 after rebate. According to Rob Galbraith's tests, it is compatible with the Digital Rebel, although it is one of the slowest media he has listed for that camera. Rob says you can boost the performance quite a bit by formatting it with a 32K cluster size.

* Magicstor 2.2GB CF+ Type II MicroDrive

Noooooooooooo! :shock: The Magicstor 2.2GB is the work of the Devil. Do not let it within a thousand miles of your dRebel. It will only cause you heartache and pain when it locks up your camera or loses your shots.

If you want a microdrive, go and buy an IBM/Hitachi one. They work fine.

I have one and it works fine in my 20D.

So, what is supposed to be wrong with it ?

evidentally, the magistor microdrive uses a non-standard ata interface. this has caused problems, for some people, such as lost file allocation tables during/after write - like kaiser soze said: 'poof it's gone...'

on the other hand you may never have a problem. :|

Ahh. I think Magicstor made two versions - the early ones (which I have) are OK , later ones were "fixed" so they didn't work in digital cameras - but only worked in PDA's.

No idea why they did this.

Well I am definitely not touching this from what I hear. I will just buy another Sandisk 1gig card again. The one I have already is super fast.

As fast as memory is developing and getting cheaper what would the advantages of a microdrive be over a solid state compact flash card. You can pick up a 2gig sandisk UltraII for less than 200 bucks. I just dont see why anyone would want a microdrive wiith its potential mechanical problems. Anything with moving parts has a higher chance of failure than something without.

"sandisk UltraII"

That is what I am using now and it's super fast.
