they're from Toronto. going on tour for 2 weeks to the UK in July I think. they hardly stop moving when they're on stage. c+c or suggestions more than welcome.

They look like they were heavilllyyy cropped. Either that or you threw the sharpening and noise sliders all the way to the right.
Technicalities aside, the images are good compositionally.

Agree that these almost look like a 100% crop ;)
Moments captured are nice.

Oh geez, the originals are twice as good as the ones you originally posted.
What post processing did you do? If you tell us we can help you know what you did wrong.

Nice photos! Definitely the two originals are better, though.
They're a fun band to shoot, and I should know, I just spent a week doing it!

Some fun stuff there Matt. Are you using a snoot on the flash or do you just have the flash zoomed in?

Thanks!
I use it zoomed in! I tried experimenting with various home-made-snoots a while back but couldn't get consistency so discovering the manual zoom feature on the 580EX was a real revelation!
Actually if you have any suggestions for pre-made snoots I can try, I'd love to hear them!

I made a grid snoot out of cardboard and straws once for some portraits that I was doing...way too small of a spread for concert stuff though. Pringles cans also work well for the 580ex...just cut to the desired length and maybe cover the thing with black tape if you have any self respect. ;)

i like the composition, the high iso made it a bit too grainy though, but that is hard to get around

I definitely like the originals way better than the first ones.

What's up Matt? Those are some great photos. Ian sent me the link on Facebook a couple of days ago. Hope to see you sometime.

Hey Daddy! Good to see you're on the facebook group! I think i've been recruited as an officer of the group now so I'll be sending you messages and updates too.
Thanks! I had such an amazing time on tour with them, and being able to shoot photos of a band like that every day was a real treat. Can't wait for the next tour!
Maybe someday I'll make it out to Canadia and see them playing on home soil! ;)

it looks like you had a real good spot to stand in.. anytime that i have gone to a show.. the owner condems me to a sml little stair case on the side of the stage.
i agree.. your SOC images are a lot better than your PPd ones.
keep shooting.. i love concert photography..
