View Full Version : HAPPY DIWALI AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR TO ALL .. FROM INDIA

Hello All, its been festive time here since thursdays... its time for diwali .. the celebration of lights and colours .. its in a way indina equivalent of Xmas celebrations and also start of hindu new year.....Wishing u all happy diwali and prosperous new year .. and ofcourse world peace :D

The lamp is the most important aspect of diwali.. people light lamps at gates to welcome the festival spirit..

day1... is jus for a bathing ritual which involves an oil bath along with sandal wood paste...people exchange sweets among family memebers and friends and neighbours

day 2 .. laxmi poojan .. the indian deity of wealth & prosperity is worshipped in all the households and business

day3... Its Padwa.. thts beginning of hindu new year for most hindu communities .( the new year may change as per the geography and the diff hindu sects.. ). people wear new clothes and visit temples and relatives.

day4.... its BhauBhij... Bhau meaning brother bhij meaning the cresent moon.. this day represents the relationship between sister and brother, wr as the sister worships her brother as mark of respect and they exchange gifts.

this is old part of the mumbai city .. this old colorfull tradition is slowwly changing as the old buildings give way to new highrises.

Thanks, all of u , yes tom am improving .. thank you .....started work but not too mobile as yet .

And this forum ,with all the photographers from around the world is the most ideal place for anyone to share information abt his /her land and culture ...unity in diversity thts wat the world should all be about.

no .. it isnt ... a art form called rangooli which is created by colored powder .. artist takes the colors in his pinch and lets out the color in required quantities to create ths images .. everyhousehold has beautiful rangooli designs outside thr gate during the festival times like diwali........ c all of this images at

Amit,
thank you for explaining the festival of Diwali. There was something on the TV
news here about Diwali celebrations in Britain but it offered no insight at all.

Thanks for all your beautiful photos from India in previous posts.

On the 11th or 12th was the beginning of the celtic new year, too.
