Hey all! I'm wondering if anyone has some suggestions for a relatively inexpensive (we're talking $500 max if that) beginner studio setup. I've been looking around on eBay and have found some things in my price range but I'm not 100% sure what I need to start out. I know a background support would come in handy but as far as lighting I'm not sure which lighting would be best.

I've been asked to photograph some machines that my father-in-law builds so that's what I'm starting with. The machines are about 5 feet high and 4 feet wide if that makes any difference. I'd like to progress to portraits once I've learned more.

I'd really appreciate any suggestions! And thanks in advance for helping the new chick!! :)

Save up for a little more cash and look at the ailien Bee's Digi bees kit. Get the AB400s in the kit and it should be $599 or so and you can always build up from there.

Thank you so much for the suggestion! I was actually just looking at Alien Bees. I think I may go that way.

Calumet Genesis kit looks good too and is getting some decent reviews on this forum.
